Looking for music from people that looked like him or grew up like him, Ginger Root (AKA Cameron Lew) fell in love with Japanese pop music. When he started making music, he would perform to audiences of 8 people–max. Today, he’s sold out Tokyo Liquid room and hit milestones he didn’t even know existed.

A reminder that music doesn't have borders, this Chinese kid from Huntington Beach, California plays music inspired by Japan that was inspired by America. Also a filmmaker, Ginger Root’s visuals are as good as his music.

Directed and Edited by
Ruolin Xu Luyo

Producer
Stephanie Tangkilisan

Director of Photography
Naotomo Umewaka
Masaki Itagaki

Field Producer
Naotomo Umewaka

Editor-in-Chief
Keshia Hannam

Head of Production
Stephanie Tangkilisan

Post Production Coordinator
Skolastika Lupitawina

Assistant Editor
Rendy Abi Pratama

Color
Nadya Sabrina

Sound Mix
Kayle Khanmohamed

Music Videos
Loretta - Ginger Root
Call it Home - Ginger Root
Loneliness - Ginger Root

Additional Music by
Rikki - Ginger Root
Internet Café - Tom Goldstein
Winter Magic - Aves
The Beach House -Space Doves
Opal - 92elm

Additional Archival Material
Fantasy - Meiko Nakahara
Stay With Me - Miki Matsubara
4:00 AM - Taeko Onuki
I'm In Love - Tomoko Aran
Blue Lagoon - Seiko Matsuda
Instagram @gingerrootmusic

Special Thanks
Cameron Lew
Daniel Asip
